Draft for review. This document is a starting template prepared for Prescott’s Family Law. It must be reviewed and adapted by the firm’s own counsel before publication, in particular against: the attorney advertising and solicitation rules of the State Bar of California; the firm’s actual data practices and vendors; and any privacy statutes that apply to the firm’s clients and website visitors. Do not publish it unchanged.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. Similar technologies include local storage, pixels and tags. They allow a site to remember your actions and preferences, and they can also be used to measure and profile behaviour.

Why this matters more on this site than most

Visitors to an adoption and family law website may be researching a pregnancy, a divorce, a safety concern or a child welfare case. That is sensitive. Our position is that this site should set the smallest possible number of cookies, and no advertising or profiling cookies at all, unless the firm makes a considered decision otherwise.

Privacy tip for visitors: if you are worried about someone else seeing what you have looked at, use a private browsing window and clear your history, or use a device that other person cannot access.

Categories

  • Strictly necessary — required for the site to work, for example security and form protection. These cannot be switched off.
  • Functional — remember your preferences.
  • Analytics — help us understand which pages are useful. Set only with consent where consent is required.
  • Advertising — not used on this site.

How to control cookies

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings, and offer a private browsing mode. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site working. Where a consent banner is displayed, you may change your choices at any time via None required (only essential first-party session cookies are utilized; no tracking or marketing cookies).

Third-party content

If we later embed a map, a video or a chat widget, that provider may set its own cookies and receive your IP address. Any such embed will be disclosed in the table above and, where consent is required, loaded only after you give it.
